Blazing Star 2

.

.

Liatris aspera

Of the same genus as the Blazing Star posted below, but this Blazing star variant comes with a thinner stem and spaces between the blooms (though a heavy flowering along the stem.) Note the tendency of the other Blazing Star to build near the top in the form of a torch.

Lovely photography of one of the prettiest wildflowers in Arkansas.

It is beloved by butterflies and other flying insects and blooms at a time when other wild flowers are winding down in late summer, early fall. Also a wonderful nectar plant for the migrating Monarchs.
